It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "When the Imam says: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him),' say: 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal-hamd (O Allah, our Lord, to You be praise).' If a person's saying coincides that with the angels' saving it, his previous sins will be forgiven."

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا قَالَ الْإِمَامُ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ وَافَقَ قَوْلُهُ قَوْلَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "When the Imam says 'Amin' (at the end of Al-Fatihah) then say 'Amin,' for if a person's saying Amin coincides with that of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven." Ibn Shihab said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to say, 'Amin."'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ وَأَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُمَا أَخْبَرَاهُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا أَمَّنَ الْإِمَامُ فَأَمِّنُوا فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ وَافَقَ تَأْمِينُهُ تَأْمِينَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ. قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ آمِينَ.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "When one of you says Amin in the prayer, and the Angels in heaven say Amin, if the one coincides with the other, then his previous sins will be forgiven."

حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو أَنَّ أَبَا يُونُسَ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا قَالَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ آمِينَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ فِي السَّمَاءِ آمِينَ فَوَافَقَ إِحْدَاهُمَا الْأُخْرَى غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

It was narrated that Az-Zuhri said: "I heard Anas bin Malik say: 'The Prophet (s.a.w) fell from a horse and was injured on his right side. We entered upon him to visit him, and the time for prayer became due, so he led us in prayer sitting, and we offered prayer behind him sitting. When he had finished the prayer, he said: "The Imam has been appointed to be followed, so when he says the Takbir, then say the Takbir; when he prostrates, then prostrate; when he rises, then rise, and when he says: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah,' then say: 'Rabbana wa lakal-hamd.' And if he prays sitting, then you should all pray sitting."

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ سَقَطَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ فَرَسٍ فَجُحِشَ شِقُّهُ الْأَيْمَنُ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ نَعُودُهُ فَحَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلَّى بِنَا قَاعِدًا فَصَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَهُ قُعُودًا فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَاعِدًا فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا أَجْمَعُونَ.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) fell from a horse and was wounded, and he led us in prayer sitting down..." then he mentioned a similar report (as no. 921).

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ خَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ فَرَسٍ فَجُحِشَ فَصَلَّى لَنَا قَاعِدًا ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) was sick and some of his Companions entered upon him to visit him. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) offered prayers sitting down, and they followed him in prayer, standing up, but he gestured to them to sit down, so they sat down. When he had finished he said: 'The Imam is appointed to be followed; when he bows, then bow; when he rises, then rise; and if he prays sitting then pray sitting."'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ اشْتَكَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُونَهُ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا بِصَلَاتِهِ قِيَامًا فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ اجْلِسُوا فَجَلَسُوا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) was sick and we prayed behind him while he was (offering prayers) sitting and Abu Bakr was repeating his Takbir so that the people could hear. He turned to us and saw us standing, and gestured to us that we should sit, so we followed him in prayer, sitting down. When he had said the Salam he said: 'Just now you almost did what the Persians and Romans do; they stand for their kings when they are sitting. Do not do that. Follow your Imam: if he prays standing then pray standing, and if he prays sitting then pray sitting."'

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ اشْتَكَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَهُ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ تَكْبِيرَهُ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا فَرَآنَا قِيَامًا فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَعَدْنَا فَصَلَّيْنَا بِصَلَاتِهِ قُعُودًا فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنْ كِدْتُمْ آنِفًا لَتَفْعَلُونَ فِعْلَ فَارِسَ وَالرُّومِ يَقُومُونَ عَلَى مُلُوكِهِمْ وَهُمْ قُعُودٌ فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا ائْتَمُّوا بِأَئِمَّتِكُمْ إِنْ صَلَّى قَائِمًا فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا وَإِنْ صَلَّى قَاعِدًا فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "The Imam is appointed to be followed, so do not differ from him. When he says the Takbir, then say the Takbir; when he bows, then bow; when he says: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah,' then say 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal-hamd,' and when he prostrates then prostrate. And if he prays sitting, then you should all pray sitting."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ يَعْنِي الْحِزَامِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعُونَ.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to teach us, saying: 'Do not precede the Imam. When he says the Takbir, then say the Takbir; when he says: "Nor of those who went astray" then say: 'Amin,' when he bows, then bow; when he says: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah,' then say: 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal-hamd."'

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَابْنُ خَشْرَمٍ قَالَا أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا يَقُولُ لَا تُبَادِرُوا الْإِمَامَ إِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ {وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ } فَقُولُوا آمِينَ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ.

A similar report (as no. 932) was narrated from Abu Hurairah from the Prophet (s.a.w), except for the words, "When he says 'Nor of those who went astray', then say: 'Amin' and he added: 'And do not rise before him."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِهِ إِلَّا قَوْلَهُ { وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ } فَقُولُوا آمِينَ وَزَادَ وَلَا تَرْفَعُوا قَبْلَهُ.
