هَلْ اَتٰی عَلَی الْاِنْسَانِ حِیْنٌ مِّنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ یَكُنْ شَیْـًٔا مَّذْكُوْرًا۝۱

WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing?

اِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُّطْفَةٍ اَمْشَاجٍ ۖۗ نَّبْتَلِیْهِ فَجَعَلْنٰهُ سَمِیْعًۢا بَصِیْرًا۝۲

Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight.

اِنَّا هَدَیْنٰهُ السَّبِیْلَ اِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَّ اِمَّا كَفُوْرًا۝۳

We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny.

اِنَّاۤ اَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكٰفِرِیْنَ سَلٰسِلَاۡ وَ اَغْلٰلًا وَّ سَعِیْرًا۝۴

We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire.

اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ یَشْرَبُوْنَ مِنْ كَاْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُوْرًاۚ۝۵

Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms

عَیْنًا یَّشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ اللّٰهِ یُفَجِّرُوْنَهَا تَفْجِیْرًا۝۶

From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance.

یُوْفُوْنَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَ یَخَافُوْنَ یَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهٗ مُسْتَطِیْرًا۝۷

Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide,

وَ یُطْعِمُوْنَ الطَّعَامَ عَلٰی حُبِّهٖ مِسْكِیْنًا وَّ یَتِیْمًا وَّ اَسِیْرًا۝۸

And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives,

اِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللّٰهِ لَا نُرِیْدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَآءً وَّ لَا شُكُوْرًا۝۹

(Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks.

اِنَّا نَخَافُ مِنْ رَّبِّنَا یَوْمًا عَبُوْسًا قَمْطَرِیْرًا۝۱۰

We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord."
