It was narrated from Anas that a Bedouin urinated in the Masjid and some of the people got up (to deal with him), but the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "Let him be, [and] do not interrupt him." When he had finished, he called for a bucket of water and poured it over it.

و حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا بَالَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعُوهُ وَلَا تُزْرِمُوهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ دَعَا بِدَلْوٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَصَبَّهُ عَلَيْهِ.

Anas bin Malik said: "While we were in the Masjid with the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), a Bedouin came and stood and urinated in the Masjid. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Stop, stop!' The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Do not interrupt him; let him be.' So they left him alone until he had finished urinating. Then the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) called him and said to him: 'These Masajid are not for any of this urine and filth; rather they are for the remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and Salat, and reading Qur'an,' or as the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said it. Then he ordered a man from the people to bring a bucket of water and pour it over it."

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْحَنَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ عَمُّ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَامَ يَبُولُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَهْ مَهْ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُزْرِمُوهُ دَعُوهُ فَتَرَكُوهُ حَتَّى بَالَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَسَاجِدَ لَا تَصْلُحُ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَوْلِ وَلَا الْقَذَرِ إِنَّمَا هِيَ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَالصَّلَاةِ وَقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَأَمَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْقَوْمِ فَجَاءَ بِدَلْوٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَشَنَّهُ عَلَيْهِ.

It was narrated from 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet (s.a.w), that babies would be brought to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and he would pray for blessing for them and put some soft, chewed dates in their mouths (Tahnik). A baby was brought to him and (the child) urinated on him. He called for some water and sprinkled it over the urine, but he did not wash it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُؤْتَى بِالصِّبْيَانِ فَيُبَرِّكُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيُحَنِّكُهُمْ فَأُتِيَ بِصَبِيٍّ فَبَالَ عَلَيْهِ فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَأَتْبَعَهُ بَوْلَهُ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ.

It was narrated from Umm Mihsan that she brought a son of hers who was not yet eating regular food to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and placed him in his lap, and he urinated. He (s.a.w) did not do any more than to sprinkle water over it.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أُمِّ قَيْسٍ بِنْتِ مِحْصَنٍ أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِابْنٍ لَهَا لَمْ يَأْكُلِ الطَّعَامَ فَوَضَعَتْهُ فِي حِجْرِهِ فَبَالَ قَالَ فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى أَنْ نَضَحَ بِالْمَاءِ.

'Ubaidullah bin 'Abdullah bin 'Utbah bin Mas'ud narrated that Umm Qais bint Mihsan - who was one of the earliest Muhajir (emigrant) women who had pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and was the sister of 'Ukashah bin Mihsan, one of Banu Asad bin Khuzaimah - told him that she brought a son of her's, who has not yet reached the age of eating regular food, to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w). 'Ubaidullah said: "She told me that that son of her's urinated in the lap of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) called for some water which he sprinkled on his garment, and he did not wash it thoroughly."

و حَدَّثَنِيهِ حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ أُمَّ قَيْسٍ بِنْتَ مِحْصَنٍ وَكَانَتْ مِنْ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ أُخْتُ عُكَّاشَةَ بْنِ مِحْصَنٍ أَحَدُ بَنِي أَسَدِ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِابْنٍ لَهَا لَمْ يَبْلُغْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الطَّعَامَ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّ ابْنَهَا ذَاكَ بَالَ فِي حَجْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَاءٍ فَنَضَحَهُ عَلَى ثَوْبِهِ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ غَسْلًا.

It was narrated from 'Alqamah and Al-Aswad that a man stayed at 'Aishah's house, and in the morning he washed his garment. 'Aishah said: "It would have been sufficient, if you saw it (the semen), to wash that place, and if you did not see it, to sprinkle water around it, for I remember scratching the garment (at the place of semen) of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) thoroughly, then he performed Salat in it."

و حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ وَالْأَسْوَدِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا نَزَلَ بِعَائِشَةَ فَأَصْبَحَ يَغْسِلُ ثَوْبَهُ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِنَّمَا كَانَ يُجْزِئُكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتَهُ أَنْ تَغْسِلَ مَكَانَهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَرَ نَضَحْتَ حَوْلَهُ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَفْرُكُهُ مِنْ ثَوْبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرْكًا فَيُصَلِّي فِيهِ.

It was narrated that 'Amr bin Maimun said: "I asked Sulaiman bin Yasar about semen that gets onto a man's garment, should he wash it or wash the (whole) garment?" He said: "'Aishah told me that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to wash the semen off, then go out to perform Salat in that garment, and I could see the traces of washing on it."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ عَنْ الْمَنِيِّ يُصِيبُ ثَوْبَ الرَّجُلِ أَيَغْسِلُهُ أَمْ يَغْسِلُ الثَّوْبَ فَقَالَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَغْسِلُ الْمَنِيَّ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فِي ذَلِكَ الثَّوْبِ وَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَثَرِ الْغَسْلِ فِيهِ.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Maimun with this chain. As for Ibn Abi Za'idah, his Hadith is like that of Ibn Bishr (no. 672), that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to wash off the semen. As for Ibn Al-Mubarak and 'Abdul-Wahid, according to their Hadith she said: "I used to wash it from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w)."

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زِيَادٍ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ وَابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ أَمَّا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ فَحَدِيثُهُ كَمَا قَالَ ابْنُ بِشْرٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَغْسِلُ الْمَنِيَّ. وَأَمَّا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ وَعَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ فَفِي حَدِيثِهِمَا قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَغْسِلُهُ مِنْ ثَوْبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Shihab Al-Khawlani said: "I was staying at 'Aishah's house, and I had a wet dream in my garment, so I dipped it in water. A slave girl of 'Aishah saw me and told her, and 'Aishah sent word to me, asking me: 'What made you do that with your garment?' I said: 'I saw what a sleeper sees in his dreams.' She said: 'Did you see something on it (the garment)?' He said: 'No.' She said: 'If you see something, then wash it, for I remember scratching it from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) with my fingernail when it was dry."'

و حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَوَّاسٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ شَبِيبِ بْنِ غَرْقَدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ قَالَ كُنْتُ نَازِلًا عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَاحْتَلَمْتُ فِي ثَوْبَيَّ فَغَمَسْتُهُمَا فِي الْمَاءِ فَرَأَتْنِي جَارِيَةٌ لِعَائِشَةَ فَأَخْبَرَتْهَا فَبَعَثَتْ إِلَيَّ عَائِشَةُ فَقَالَتْ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ بِثَوْبَيْكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ رَأَيْتُ مَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ فِي مَنَامِهِ قَالَتْ هَلْ رَأَيْتَ فِيهِمَا شَيْئًا؟ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَتْ فَلَوْ رَأَيْتَ شَيْئًا غَسَلْتَهُ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي وَإِنِّي لَأَحُكُّهُ مِنْ ثَوْبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَابِسًا بِظُفُرِي.

It was narrated that Asma' said: "A woman came to the Prophet (s.a.w) and said: 'Menstrual blood may get onto the clothes of any one of us; what should she do with it?' He said: 'She should scratch it (when it is dry), then rub it with water, then wash it, then pray in it."'

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي فَاطِمَةُ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ قَالَتْ جَاءَتْ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ إِحْدَانَا يُصِيبُ ثَوْبَهَا مِنْ دَمِ الْحَيْضَةِ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ تَحُتُّهُ ثُمَّ تَقْرُصُهُ بِالْمَاءِ ثُمَّ تَنْضِحُهُ ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي فِيهِ.
