It was narrated from Abu Rafi' that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) borrowed a young camel from a man, then some Sadaqah camels were brought to him. He told Abu Rafi' to give the man back his camel, and Abu Rafi' came back to him and said: "I could not find anything among them but camels that were better and older." He said: "Give it to him, for the best of people are those who are best in paying off their debts."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَرْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِى رَافِعٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- اسْتَسْلَفَ مِنْ رَجُلٍ بَكْرًا فَقَدِمَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِبِلٌ مِنْ إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَأَمَرَ أَبَا رَافِعٍ أَنْ يَقْضِىَ الرَّجُلَ بَكْرَهُ فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو رَافِعٍ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَجِدْ فِيهَا إِلاَّ خِيَارًا رَبَاعِيًا. فَقَالَ « أَعْطِهِ إِيَّاهُ إِنَّ خِيَارَ النَّاسِ أَحْسَنُهُمْ قَضَاءً ».

It was narrated that Abu Rafi', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) borrowed a young camel..." a similar report (as no. 4108), except that he said: "The best of the slaves of Allah are those who are the best in paying off their debts."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَسْلَمَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِى رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ اسْتَسْلَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بَكْرًا. بِمِثْلِهِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ « فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ أَحْسَنُهُمْ قَضَاءً ».

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "A man was owed something by the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and he spoke to him in a harsh manner, so the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w) wanted to go after him. The Prophet (s.a.w) said: 'The one who has a right is entitled to speak.' And he said to them: 'Buy a camel for him and give it to him.' They said: 'We cannot find anything but a camel that is better than his.' He said: 'Buy it and give it to him, for among the best of you' - or 'the best of you' - 'are those who are the best in paying off debts."'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الْعَبْدِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَ لِرَجُلٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حَقٌّ فَأَغْلَظَ لَهُ فَهَمَّ بِهِ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « إِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَقِّ مَقَالاً - فَقَالَ لَهُمُ - اشْتَرُوا لَهُ سِنًّا فَأَعْطُوهُ إِيَّاهُ ». فَقَالُوا إِنَّا لاَ نَجِدُ إِلاَّ سِنًّا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ سِنِّهِ. قَالَ « فَاشْتَرُوهُ فَأَعْطُوهُ إِيَّاهُ فَإِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِكُمْ - أَوْ خَيْرَكُمْ - أَحْسَنُكُمْ قَضَاءً ».

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) borrowed a camel, and gave back a camel that was better than it, and he said: 'The best of you are those who are the best in paying off debts."'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ عَلِىِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ اسْتَقْرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- سِنًّا فَأَعْطَى سِنًّا فَوْقَهُ وَقَالَ « خِيَارُكُمْ مَحَاسِنُكُمْ قَضَاءً ».

It was narrated that Jabir said: "A slave came and swore allegiance to the Prophet (s.a.w), pledging to emigrate, and he did not realize that he was a slave. Then his master came looking for him. The Prophet (s.a.w) said: 'Sell him to me,' and he bought him for two black slaves. Then after that he did not accept the oath of allegiance of anyone until he had asked: 'Is he a slave?"'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِىُّ وَابْنُ رُمْحٍ قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ ح وَحَدَّثَنِيهِ قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ أَبِى الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ جَاءَ عَبْدٌ فَبَايَعَ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ وَلَمْ يَشْعُرْ أَنَّهُ عَبْدٌ فَجَاءَ سَيِّدُهُ يُرِيدُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « بِعْنِيهِ ». فَاشْتَرَاهُ بِعَبْدَيْنِ أَسْوَدَيْنِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يُبَايِعْ أَحَدًا بَعْدُ حَتَّى يَسْأَلَهُ « أَعَبْدٌ هُوَ ».

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) bought some food from a Jew to be paid for at a later date, and he gave him an iron coat of mail of his as collateral.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِىُّ أَخْبَرَنَا الْمَخْزُومِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ قَالَ ذَكَرْنَا الرَّهْنَ فِى السَّلَمِ عِنْدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِىِّ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَسْوَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- اشْتَرَى مِنْ يَهُودِىٍّ طَعَامًا إِلَى أَجَلٍ وَرَهَنَهُ دِرْعًا لَهُ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "When the Prophet (s.a.w) came to Al-Madinah, they used to pay one or two years in advance for fruits. He said: 'Whoever pays for fruits in advance, let him pay in advance for a specified measure and a specified weight, for a specified amount of time."'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ - وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى قَالَ عَمْرٌو حَدَّثَنَا وَقَالَ يَحْيَى - أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِى نَجِيحٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِى الْمِنْهَالِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- الْمَدِينَةَ وَهُمْ يُسْلِفُونَ فِى الثِّمَارِ السَّنَةَ وَالسَّنَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ « مَنْ أَسْلَفَ فِى تَمْرٍ فَلْيُسْلِفْ فِى كَيْلٍ مَعْلُومٍ وَوَزْنٍ مَعْلُومٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مَعْلُومٍ ».

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "When the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) came (to Al-Madinah), the people used to pay in advance. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said to them: 'Whoever pays in advance, let him not pay in advance except for a specified measure and a specified weight."'

حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِى نَجِيحٍ حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِى الْمِنْهَالِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَالنَّاسُ يُسْلِفُونَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « مَنْ أَسْلَفَ فَلاَ يُسْلِفْ إِلاَّ فِى كَيْلٍ مَعْلُومٍ وَوَزْنٍ مَعْلُومٍ ».

Sa'eed bin Al-Musayyab narrated that Ma'mar said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Whoever hoards is a sinner."' It was said to Sa'eed: "But you hoard." Sa'eed said: "Ma'mar, the one who narrated this Hadith, used to hoard."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ بِلاَلٍ - عَنْ يَحْيَى - وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ - قَالَ كَانَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ مَعْمَرًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « مَنِ احْتَكَرَ فَهُوَ خَاطِئٌ ». فَقِيلَ لِسَعِيدٍ فَإِنَّكَ تَحْتَكِرُ قَالَ سَعِيدٌ إِنَّ مَعْمَرًا الَّذِى كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ كَانَ يَحْتَكِرُ.

It was narrated from Ma'mar bin 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "No one hoards but a sinner."

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الأَشْعَثِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلاَنَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « لاَ يَحْتَكِرُ إِلاَّ خَاطِئٌ ».
