الَّذِیْنَ طَغَوْا فِی الْبِلَادِ۪ۙ۝۱۱

Who terrorised the region,

فَاَكْثَرُوْا فِیْهَا الْفَسَادَ۪ۙ۝۱۲

And multiplied corruption.

فَصَبَّ عَلَیْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍۚۙ۝۱۳

So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them.

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِؕ۝۱۴

Your Lord is certainly in wait.

فَاَمَّا الْاِنْسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكْرَمَهٗ وَ نَعَّمَهٗ ۙ۬ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَكْرَمَنِؕ۝۱۵

As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me."

وَ اَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابْتَلٰىهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَیْهِ رِزْقَهٗ ۙ۬ فَیَقُوْلُ رَبِّیْۤ اَهَانَنِۚ۝۱۶

But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me."

كَلَّا بَلْ لَّا تُكْرِمُوْنَ الْیَتِیْمَۙ۝۱۷

No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans,

وَ لَا تَحٰٓضُّوْنَ عَلٰی طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِیْنِۙ۝۱۸

Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor,

وَ تَاْكُلُوْنَ التُّرَاثَ اَكْلًا لَّمًّاۙ۝۱۹

And you devour (others´) inheritance greedily,

وَّ تُحِبُّوْنَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّاؕ۝۲۰

And love wealth with all your heart.
