اَلْحَآقَّةُۙ۝۱

THE CONCRETE REALITY.

مَا الْحَآقَّةُۚ۝۲

What is the concrete reality?

وَ مَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الْحَآقَّةُؕ۝۳

What do you comprehend by the concrete reality?

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُوْدُ وَ عَادٌۢ بِالْقَارِعَةِ۝۴

The Thamud and ´Ad denied the consequential calamity.

فَاَمَّا ثَمُوْدُ فَاُهْلِكُوْا بِالطَّاغِیَةِ۝۵

So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning;

وَ اَمَّا عَادٌ فَاُهْلِكُوْا بِرِیْحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِیَةٍۙ۝۶

And the ´Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَیْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَیَالٍ وَّ ثَمٰنِیَةَ اَیَّامٍ ۙ حُسُوْمًا ۙ فَتَرَی الْقَوْمَ فِیْهَا صَرْعٰی ۙ كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِیَةٍۚ۝۷

Which He sent to assail them for seven nights and eight days running. You should have seen the people prostrate like the decayed trunks of date-palm trees.

فَهَلْ تَرٰی لَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَاقِیَةٍ۝۸

Do you see any trace of them?

وَ جَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَ مَنْ قَبْلَهٗ وَ الْمُؤْتَفِكٰتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِۚ۝۹

Then came the Pharaoh, and those before him whose habitations were overthrown while they were committing crimes.

فَعَصَوْا رَسُوْلَ رَبِّهِمْ فَاَخَذَهُمْ اَخْذَةً رَّابِیَةً۝۱۰

When they disobeyed the apostle of their Lord He seized them with an overwhelming punishment.
