هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِیْمٍۙ۝۱۱

Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer,

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَیْرِ مُعْتَدٍ اَثِیْمٍۙ۝۱۲

Who hinders men from (doing) good, the transgressor, the iniquitous,

عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ زَنِیْمٍۙ۝۱۳

Crude, and above all, mean and infamous,

اَنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَّ بَنِیْنَؕ۝۱۴

Simply because he possesses wealth and children.

اِذَا تُتْلٰی عَلَیْهِ اٰیٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِیْرُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ۝۱۵

When you recite Our revelations to him, he says: "These are fables of long ago."

سَنَسِمُهٗ عَلَی الْخُرْطُوْمِ۝۱۶

We shall brand him on the muzzle.

اِنَّا بَلَوْنٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَاۤ اَصْحٰبَ الْجَنَّةِ ۚ اِذْ اَقْسَمُوْا لَیَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِیْنَۙ۝۱۷

We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning

وَ لَا یَسْتَثْنُوْنَ۝۱۸

But did not add: "If God may please."

فَطَافَ عَلَیْهَا طَآىِٕفٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكَ وَ هُمْ نَآىِٕمُوْنَ۝۱۹

Then a calamity from your Lord fell upon it, but they remained fast asleep.

فَاَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِیْمِۙ۝۲۰

So by the morning it seemed as though picked clean.
