It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) entered upon me happy one day and said: 'O 'Aishah, did you not see that Mujazziz Al-Mudlaji entered upon me and he saw Usamah and Zaid with a piece of velvet cloth over them that was covering their heads, but their feet were showing, and he said: These feet belong to one another."'

وَحَدَّثَنِى عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لِعَمْرٍو - قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ مَسْرُورًا فَقَالَ « يَا عَائِشَةُ أَلَمْ تَرَىْ أَنَّ مُجَزِّزًا الْمُدْلِجِىَّ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ فَرَأَى أُسَامَةَ وَزَيْدًا وَعَلَيْهِمَا قَطِيفَةٌ قَدْ غَطَّيَا رُءُوسَهُمَا وَبَدَتْ أَقْدَامُهُمَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الأَقْدَامَ بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ ».

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "A Qa'if (one who detects family resemblance) entered when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) was present, and Usamah bin Zaid and Zaid bin Harithah were lying down. He said: 'These feet belong to one another.' The Prophet (s.a.w) was pleased by this and liked it, and he told 'Aishah about it."

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِى مُزَاحِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ قَائِفٌ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- شَاهِدٌ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ مُضْطَجِعَانِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الأَقْدَامَ بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ. فَسُرَّ بِذَلِكَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَأَعْجَبَهُ وَأَخْبَرَ بِهِ عَائِشَةَ.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) married Umm Salamah, he stayed with her for three days, and he said: "There is no lack ofesteem on the part of your husband towards you. If you wish, I will stay with you for seven days, but if I stay with you for seven days, then I will have to stay with each of my wives for seven days.''

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ وَيَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لأَبِى بَكْرٍ - قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا ثَلاَثًا وَقَالَ « إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ هَوَانٌ إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ وَإِنْ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ سَبَّعْتُ لِنِسَائِى ».

It was narrated from Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman that when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) married Umm Salamah, the following morning he said to her: "There is no lack of esteem on the part of your husband towards you. If you wish, I will stay with you for seven days, or if you wish I will stay with you for three, then I will visit (each of you) in tum." She said: "Make it three."

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ { عَنْ أَبِيهِ } أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حِينَ تَزَوَّجَ أَمَّ سَلَمَةَ وَأَصْبَحَتْ عِنْدَهُ قَالَ لَهَا « لَيْسَ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ هَوَانٌ إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ عِنْدَكِ وَإِنْ شِئْتِ ثَلَّثْتُ ثُمَّ دُرْتُ ». قَالَتْ ثَلِّثْ.

It was narrated from Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman that when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) married Umm Salamah, he went to stay with her, then he wanted to leave and she took hold of his garment. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "If you wish, I will stay longer and count it. For a virgin seven days, and for a previously-married woman, three."

وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْقَعْنَبِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ بِلاَلٍ - عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِى بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حِينَ تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ أَخَذَتْ بِثَوْبِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « إِنْ شِئْتِ زِدْتُكِ وَحَاسَبْتُكِ بِهِ لِلْبِكْرِ سَبْعٌ وَلِلثَّيِّبِ ثَلاَثٌ ».

It was narrated from Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Harith bin Hisham, from Umm Salamah. He(s.a.w) said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) married her, and he mentioned some things, including this: He said: "If you wish, I will stay with you (to Umm Salamah) for seven days, and then spend seven days with each of my wives, for if I spend seven days with you I will spend seven days with each of my wives."

حَدَّثَنِى أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ غِيَاثٍ - عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ أَيْمَنَ عَنْ أَبِى بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ذَكَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- تَزَوَّجَهَا وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ هَذَا فِيهِ قَالَ « إِنْ شِئْتِ أَنْ أُسَبِّعَ لَكِ وَأُسَبِّعَ لِنِسَائِى وَإِنْ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ سَبَّعْتُ لِنِسَائِى ».

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "If (a man) marries a virgin in addition to a previously-married woman, he should stay with her for seven days, and if he marries a previously-married woman in addition to a virgin, he should stay with her for three." Khalid (a narrator) said: "If I were to say that he attributed it to the Prophet (s.a.w) I would be speaking the truth, but he said: 'That is the Sunnah.'"

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِى قِلاَبَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ الْبِكْرَ عَلَى الثَّيِّبِ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا سَبْعًا وَإِذَا تَزَوَّجَ الثَّيِّبَ عَلَى الْبِكْرِ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهَا ثَلاَثًا. قَالَ خَالِدٌ وَلَوْ قُلْتُ إِنَّهُ رَفَعَهُ لَصَدَقْتُ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَالَ السُّنَّةُ كَذَلِكَ.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Prophet (s.a.w) had nine wives, and when he divided his time among them, he did not come back to the first one until the ninth day. Every night they used to gather in the house of the one whose night it was. He was in 'Aishah's house, and Zainab came and he reached out his hand towards her. 'Aishah said: 'This is Zainab, and the Prophet (s.a.w) withdrew his hand.' They argued and raised their voices, and the Iqamah was called for prayer. Abu Bakr came past at that point and heard their voices, so he said: 'Come out for the prayer, O Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and throw dust in their mouths.' The Prophet (s.a.w) came out, and 'Aishah said: 'Now the Prophet (s.a.w) will finish his prayer and come, and Abu Bakr will come and do such-and-such to me.' When the Prophet (s.a.w) had finished his prayer, Abu Bakr came to her and spoke sternly to her, and said: 'Do you behave like this?"'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ لِلنَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ فَكَانَ إِذَا قَسَمَ بَيْنَهُنَّ لاَ يَنْتَهِى إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ الأُولَى إِلاَّ فِى تِسْعٍ فَكُنَّ يَجْتَمِعْنَ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ فِى بَيْتِ الَّتِى يَأْتِيهَا فَكَانَ فِى بَيْتِ عَائِشَةَ فَجَاءَتْ زَيْنَبُ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَتْ هَذِهِ زَيْنَبُ. فَكَفَّ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَدَهُ. فَتَقَاوَلَتَا حَتَّى اسْتَخَبَتَا وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَمَرَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَهُمَا فَقَالَ اخْرُجْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ وَاحْثُ فِى أَفْوَاهِهِنَّ التُّرَابَ.فَخَرَجَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ الآنَ يَقْضِى النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- صَلاَتَهُ فَيَجِىءُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَيَفْعَلُ بِى وَيَفْعَلُ. فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- صَلاَتَهُ أَتَاهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا قَوْلاً شَدِيدًا وَقَالَ أَتَصْنَعِينَ هَذَا.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I never saw a woman whose position I wished I could be in more than Sawdah bint Zam'ah, a woman of strong character." When she grew old, she gave her day with the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) to 'Aishah. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have given my day with you to 'Aishah." So the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) gave 'Aishah two days, her day, and Sawdah's day.

حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ امْرَأَةً أَحَبَّ إِلَىَّ أَنْ أَكُونَ فِى مِسْلاَخِهَا مِنْ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ فِيهَا حِدَّةٌ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا كَبِرَتْ جَعَلَتْ يَوْمَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لِعَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ جَعَلْتُ يَوْمِى مِنْكَ لِعَائِشَةَ.فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقْسِمُ لِعَائِشَةَ يَوْمَيْنِ يَوْمَهَا وَيَوْمَ سَوْدَةَ.

It was narrated from Hisham with this chain, that when Sawdah grew old... a Hadith like that of Jarir (no. 3629). In the Hadith of Sharik it adds: "She was the first woman whom he married after me."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ حَدَّثَنَا الأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ هِشَامٍ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ أَنَّ سَوْدَةَ لَمَّا كَبِرَتْ. بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ وَزَادَ فِى حَدِيثِ شَرِيكٍ قَالَتْ وَكَانَتْ أَوَّلَ امْرَأَةٍ تَزَوَّجَهَا بَعْدِى.
