It was narrated that Sayyar bin Salamah Abu AI-Minhal said: "I heard Abu Barzah Al-Aslami say: 'The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to delay 'Isha' until one-third of the night had passed, and he disliked sleeping before it and talking after it. In Fajr he used to recite between sixty and one hundred verses, and he would end when we could recognize one another's faces."'

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْكَلْبِىُّ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سَيَّارِ بْنِ سَلاَمَةَ أَبِى الْمِنْهَالِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَرْزَةَ الأَسْلَمِىَّ يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُؤَخِّرُ الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ وَيَكْرَهُ النَّوْمَ قَبْلَهَا وَالْحَدِيثَ بَعْدَهَا وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِى صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ مِنَ الْمِائَةِ إِلَى السِّتِّينَ وَكَانَ يَنْصَرِفُ حِينَ يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُنَا وَجْهَ بَعْضٍ.

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said to me: 'What will you do when there are appointed over you rulers who delay the prayer from its proper time or kill it?' I said: 'What do you command me to do?' He said: 'Offer the prayer on time, then if you are with them when they pray, pray with them, and that will be a voluntary prayer for you."'

حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِى أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِىُّ وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِىُّ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ أَبِى عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِىِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ قَالَ لِى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ « كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْكَ أُمَرَاءُ يُؤَخِّرُونَ الصَّلاَةَ عَنْ وَقْتِهَا أَوْ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلاَةَ عَنْ وَقْتِهَا ». قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِى قَالَ « صَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهَا مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّهَا لَكَ نَافِلَةٌ ». وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ خَلَفٌ عَنْ وَقْتِهَا.

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "The Messenger of Allah ~ said to me: 'O Abu Dharr, after me there will be rulers who will kill the prayer. Pray on time, for if you pray on time, that will be voluntary, and you will have preserved your prayer."'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِى عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِىِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ قَالَ لِى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِى أُمَرَاءُ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَصَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ صَلَّيْتَ لِوَقْتِهَا كَانَتْ لَكَ نَافِلَةً وَإِلاَّ كُنْتَ قَدْ أَحْرَزْتَ صَلاَتَكَ ».

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "My beloved (i.e., The Prophet (s.a.w)) advised me to listen and obey, even if the one appointed over me is a slave with his hands and feet cut off, and to offer the prayer on time. 'If you catch up with the people but find that they have already prayed, then you will have preserved your prayer, and if you do catch up with them, that will be a voluntary prayer for you."'

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِى عِمْرَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ إِنَّ خَلِيلِى أَوْصَانِى أَنْ أَسْمَعَ وَأُطِيعَ وَإِنْ كَانَ عَبْدًا مُجَدَّعَ الأَطْرَافِ وَأَنْ أُصَلِّىَ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا « فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ الْقَوْمَ وَقَدْ صَلَّوْا كُنْتَ قَدْ أَحْرَزْتَ صَلاَتَكَ وَإِلاَّ كَانَتْ لَكَ نَافِلَةً ».

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said, striking my thigh: 'What will you do if you are among people who delay the prayer from its proper time?"' He said: "What do you command me to do?" He said: "Offer the prayer on time, then go about your business, and if the Iqamah for prayer is called when you are in the Masjid, then pray."

وَحَدَّثَنِى يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ بُدَيْلٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْعَالِيَةِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى « كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِى قَوْمٍ يُؤَخِّرُونَ الصَّلاَةَ عَنْ وَقْتِهَا ». قَالَ قَالَ مَا تَأْمُرُ قَالَ « صَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا ثُمَّ اذْهَبْ لِحَاجَتِكَ فَإِنْ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ وَأَنْتَ فِى الْمَسْجِدِ فَصَلِّ ».

It was narrated that Abu Al-'Aliyah Al-Bara' said: "Ibn Ziyad delayed the prayer, and 'Abdullah bin As-Samit came to me. I brought him a chair and he sat down, then he told me what Ibn Ziyad had done, and bit on his lip (as a sign of displeasure). He struck me on the thigh and said: 'I asked Abu Dharr the same thing as you are asking me, and he struck me on the thigh as I have struck you, and said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) the same thing as you asked me, and he struck me on the thigh as I have struck you, and said: Offer the prayer on time, then if you catch up with the prayer with them, then pray, and do not say, I have already prayed so I will not pray.'"

وَحَدَّثَنِى زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِى الْعَالِيَةِ الْبَرَّاءِ قَالَ أَخَّرَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّلاَةَ فَجَاءَنِى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَأَلْقَيْتُ لَهُ كُرْسِيًّا فَجَلَسَ عَلَيْهِ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ صَنِيعَ ابْنِ زِيَادٍ فَعَضَّ عَلَى شَفَتِهِ وَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى وَقَالَ إِنِّى سَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِى فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ فَخِذَكَ وَقَالَ إِنِّى سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِى فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ فَخِذَكَ وَقَالَ « صَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلاَةُ مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّ وَلاَ تَقُلْ إِنِّى قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلاَ أُصَلِّى ».

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "He (s.a.w) said: 'What will you do if you stay among people who delay the prayer from its proper time? Offer the prayer on time, then if the Iqamah if called, pray with them. That will be better.'"

وَحَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ التَّيْمِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِى نَعَامَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ قَالَ « كَيْفَ أَنْتُمْ - أَوْ قَالَ كَيْفَ أَنْتَ - إِذَا بَقِيتَ فِى قَوْمٍ يُؤَخِّرُونَ الصَّلاَةَ عَنْ وَقْتِهَا فَصَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا ثُمَّ إِنْ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ فَإِنَّهَا زِيَادَةُ خَيْرٍ ».

It was narrated that Abu Al-'Aliyah Al-Bara' said: "I said to 'Abdullah bin As-Samit: 'We pray behind rulers on Fridays who delay the prayer.' He struck me painfully on the thigh and said: 'I asked Abu Dharr about that and he struck me on the thigh and said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) about that and he said: Offer the prayer on time, and make your prayer with them voluntary."' And 'Abdullah said: "It was said to me that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) struck the thigh of Abu Dharr."

وَحَدَّثَنِى أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ - وَهْوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ - حَدَّثَنِى أَبِى عَنْ مَطَرٍ عَنْ أَبِى الْعَالِيَةِ الْبَرَّاءِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ نُصَلِّى يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ خَلْفَ أُمَرَاءَ فَيُؤَخِّرُونَ الصَّلاَةَ - قَالَ - فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى ضَرْبَةً أَوْجَعَتْنِى وَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِى وَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ « صَلُّوا الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا وَاجْعَلُوا صَلاَتَكُمْ مَعَهُمْ نَافِلَةً ». قَالَ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ذُكِرَ لِى أَنَّ نَبِىَّ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- ضَرَبَ فَخِذَ أَبِى ذَرٍّ.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (s.a.w) said: "Prayer in congregation is superior to the prayer of a man offered alone by twenty-five degrees." And he said: "The Angels of the night and the Angels of the day meet at Fajr prayer." Abu Hurairah said: "Recite if you wish: '... And recite the Qur'an in the early dawn. Verily, the recitation of the Qur'an in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by the Angels in charge of mankind of the day and the night).'"

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « تَفْضُلُ صَلاَةٌ فِى الْجَمِيعِ عَلَى صَلاَةِ الرَّجُلِ وَحْدَهُ خَمْسًا وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً ». قَالَ « وَتَجْتَمِعُ مَلاَئِكَةُ اللَّيْلِ وَمَلاَئِكَةُ النَّهَارِ فِى صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ ». قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ (وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا)

Ibn Juraij said: " 'Umar bin 'Ata' bin Abi Al-Khuwar told me that while he was sitting with Nafi' bin Jubair bin Mutim, Abu 'Abdullah, the in-law of Zaid bin Zabban, the freed slave of the Juhanis, passed by them. Nafi' called him and said: 'I heard Abu Hurairah say: The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'A prayer offered with the Imam is better than twenty-five prayers offered on one's own."'

حَدَّثَنِى هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِى عُمَرُ بْنُ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِى الْخُوَارِ أَنَّهُ بَيْنَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ مَعَ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ إِذْ مَرَّ بِهِمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ خَتَنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ زَبَّانٍ مَوْلَى الْجُهَنِيِّينَ فَدَعَاهُ نَافِعٌ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « صَلاَةٌ مَعَ الإِمَامِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ صَلاَةً يُصَلِّيهَا وَحْدَهُ ».
