اِلَّاۤ اِبْلِیْسَ ؕ اَبٰۤی اَنْ یَّكُوْنَ مَعَ السّٰجِدِیْنَ۝۳۱

Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers.

قَالَ یٰۤاِبْلِیْسُ مَا لَكَ اَلَّا تَكُوْنَ مَعَ السّٰجِدِیْنَ۝۳۲

"How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?"

قَالَ لَمْ اَكُنْ لِّاَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهٗ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَاٍ مَّسْنُوْنٍ۝۳۳

"How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?"

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَاِنَّكَ رَجِیْمٌۙ۝۳۴

"Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place,

وَّ اِنَّ عَلَیْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ اِلٰی یَوْمِ الدِّیْنِ۝۳۵

Condemned till the day of Doom!"

قَالَ رَبِّ فَاَنْظِرْنِیْۤ اِلٰی یَوْمِ یُبْعَثُوْنَ۝۳۶

"O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised."

قَالَ فَاِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِیْنَۙ۝۳۷

"You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord),

اِلٰی یَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُوْمِ۝۳۸

"Till the predetermined time."

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَاۤ اَغْوَیْتَنِیْ لَاُزَیِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِی الْاَرْضِ وَ لَاُغْوِیَنَّهُمْ اَجْمَعِیْنَۙ۝۳۹

"O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I´ll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray,

اِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ۝۴۰

Except the chosen ones among Your creatures."
