قَالَ فَاْتِ بِهٖۤ اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِیْنَ۝۳۱

(The Pharaoh) said: "Then bring it, if you speak the truth."

فَاَلْقٰی عَصَاهُ فَاِذَا هِیَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِیْنٌۚۖ۝۳۲

So (Moses) cast his staff, and lo, it turned into a living serpent.

وَّ نَزَعَ یَدَهٗ فَاِذَا هِیَ بَیْضَآءُ لِلنّٰظِرِیْنَ۠۝۳۳

And he drew forth his hand, and lo, it looked white to the beholders.

قَالَ لِلْمَلَاِ حَوْلَهٗۤ اِنَّ هٰذَا لَسٰحِرٌ عَلِیْمٌۙ۝۳۴

The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician.

یُّرِیْدُ اَنْ یُّخْرِجَكُمْ مِّنْ اَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهٖ ۖۗ فَمَا ذَا تَاْمُرُوْنَ۝۳۵

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. So, what do you bid?"

قَالُوْۤا اَرْجِهْ وَ اَخَاهُ وَ ابْعَثْ فِی الْمَدَآىِٕنِ حٰشِرِیْنَۙ۝۳۶

They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather

یَاْتُوْكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِیْمٍ۝۳۷

And bring the ablest magicians to you."

فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِیْقَاتِ یَوْمٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍۙ۝۳۸

So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day.

وَّ قِیْلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُّجْتَمِعُوْنَۙ۝۳۹

And the people were also asked to assemble.

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ اِنْ كَانُوْا هُمُ الْغٰلِبِیْنَ۝۴۰

(They said): "We may haply follow the magicians if they are victorious."
