It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) often used to say: 'Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him.)' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do I see you often saying: "Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atabu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him)?' He said: 'My Lord told me that I would see a sign in my Ummah, and that when I saw it, I was to say often "Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him.)" And I have seen it When there comes the Help of Allah and the Conquest" - the conquest of Makkah - '"And you see that the people enter Allah's religion (Islam) in crowds. So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask His forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and Who forgives..."'

حَدَّثَنِى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُكْثِرُ مِنْ قَوْلِ « سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ». قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَاكَ تُكْثِرُ مِنْ قَوْلِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ. فَقَالَ « خَبَّرَنِى رَبِّى أَنِّى سَأَرَى عَلاَمَةً فِى أُمَّتِى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُهَا أَكْثَرْتُ مِنْ قَوْلِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ. فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهَا (إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ) فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ ( وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِى دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا) ».

Ibn Juraij said: "I said to 'Ata': 'What do you say when you bow?' He said: 'Subhanaka wa bihamdika la ilaha ilia anta (Glory and praise be to You, there is none worthy of worship except You.) Ibn Abi Mulaikah told me that 'Aishah said: "I noticed that the Prophet (s.a.w) was not there one night, and I thought that he had gone to one of his (other) wives. I looked for him, then I came back, and I saw he was bowing or prostrating and saying: 'Subhanaka wa bihamdika Ia ilaha ilia anta (Glory and praise be to You, there is none worthy of worship except You.)' I said: 'May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! I was thinking of one thing and you were doing something else."'

وَحَدَّثَنِى حَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِىٍّ الْحُلْوَانِىُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ كَيْفَ تَقُولُ أَنْتَ فِى الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ أَمَّا سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ فَأَخْبَرَنِى ابْنُ أَبِى مُلَيْكَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتِ افْتَقَدْتُ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ ذَهَبَ إِلَى بَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ فَتَحَسَّسْتُ ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ فَإِذَا هُوَ رَاكِعٌ أَوْ سَاجِدٌ يَقُولُ « سُبْحَانَكَ وَبِحَمْدِكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ». فَقُلْتُ بِأَبِى أَنْتَ وَأُمِّى إِنِّى لَفِى شَأْنٍ وَإِنَّكَ لَفِى آخَرَ.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that 'Aishah said: "I noticed that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) was not in the bed one night, so I searched for him, and my hand fell on the sole of his foot. He was in the Masjid, with his feet held upright, and he was saying:'Allahumma! Inni a'udhu biridaka min sakhatika wa bimu 'afatika min 'uqubatika, wa a'udhu bika minka, Ia ushi thana'an 'alayka, anta kama athnaita 'ala nafsik (O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, in Your forgiveness from Your punishment. I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot praise You enough; You are as You have praised Yourself.)"'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنِى عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ فَقَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لَيْلَةً مِنَ الْفِرَاشِ فَالْتَمَسْتُهُ فَوَقَعَتْ يَدِى عَلَى بَطْنِ قَدَمَيْهِ وَهُوَ فِى الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُمَا مَنْصُوبَتَانِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ « اللَّهُمَّ أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَبِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ لاَ أُحْصِى ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ ».

Ma'dan bin Abi Talhah Al-Ya'muri said: "I met Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and said: 'Tell me of a deed that I may do, by which Allah may admit me to Paradise"' - or he said: 'Tell me of the most beloved of deeds to Allah.' He remained silent. I asked him (again) and he remained silent. I asked him a third time and he said: 'I asked the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) about that and he said: You should prostrate to Allah a great deal, for you will not perform one prostration to Allah, but Allah will raise you one degree in status thereby, and erase one sin for you."' Ma'dan said: "Then I met Abu Ad-Darda' and asked him (the same question), and he said the same as Thawban had said to me."

حَدَّثَنِى زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الأَوْزَاعِىَّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِى الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْمُعَيْطِىُّ حَدَّثَنِى مَعْدَانُ بْنُ أَبِى طَلْحَةَ الْيَعْمَرِىُّ قَالَ لَقِيتُ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِى بِعَمَلٍ أَعْمَلُهُ يُدْخِلُنِى اللَّهُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ. أَوْ قَالَ قُلْتُ بِأَحَبِّ الأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ. فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَسَكَتَ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَ « عَلَيْكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ لِلَّهِ فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلاَّ رَفَعَكَ اللَّهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً ». قَالَ مَعْدَانُ ثُمَّ لَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِى مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ لِى ثَوْبَانُ.

Rabi'ah bin Ka'b Al-Aslami said: "I used to stay overnight with the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and bring him water for Wudu' and whatever he needed. He said to me: 'Ask.' I said: 'I ask to be with you in Paradise.' He said: 'Is there anything else?' I said: 'That is all,' He said:'Help me to do that for you by prostrating a great deal."'

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِقْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الأَوْزَاعِىَّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِى يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِى كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِى أَبُو سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنِى رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الأَسْلَمِىُّ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَبِيتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِوَضُوئِهِ وَحَاجَتِهِ فَقَالَ لِى « سَلْ ». فَقُلْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ مُرَافَقَتَكَ فِى الْجَنَّةِ. قَالَ « أَوَغَيْرَ ذَلِكَ ». قُلْتُ هُوَ ذَاكَ. قَالَ « فَأَعِنِّى عَلَى نَفْسِكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ ».

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Prophet (s.a.w) ordered that we should prostrate on seven bones, and he forbade tucking up one's hair and garment." This is the Hadith of Yahya. Abu Ar-Rabi' (in his narration) said: "... on seven bones, and it was forbidden to tuck up one's hair or garment: The (bones are of) the hands, the knees, the feet, and the forehead."

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِىُّ قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أُمِرَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنْ يَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعَةٍ وَنُهِىَ أَنْ يَكُفَّ شَعْرَهُ وَثِيَابَهُ. هَذَا حَدِيثُ يَحْيَى. وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَعْظُمٍ وَنُهِىَ أَنْ يَكُفَّ شَعْرَهُ وَثِيَابَهُ الْكَفَّيْنِ وَالرُّكْبَتَيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ وَالْجَبْهَةِ.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (s.a.w) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones, and not to tuck up my garment or hair."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ - حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَعْظُمٍ وَلاَ أَكُفَّ ثَوْبًا وَلاَ شَعْرًا ».

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones: The forehead" - and he pointed to his nose - "the hands, the feet and the ends of the feet (toes), and not to tuck up my garment or hair."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَعْظُمٍ الْجَبْهَةِ - وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى أَنْفِهِ - وَالْيَدَيْنِ وَالرِّجْلَيْنِ وَأَطْرَافِ الْقَدَمَيْنِ وَلاَ نَكْفِتَ الثِّيَابَ وَلاَ الشَّعْرَ ».

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven (bones) and not to tuck up my hair or garment: The forehead, the nose, the hands, the knees and the feet."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِى ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعٍ وَلاَ أَكْفِتَ الشَّعْرَ وَلاَ الثِّيَابَ الْجَبْهَةِ وَالأَنْفِ وَالْيَدَيْنِ وَالرُّكْبَتَيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ ».

It was narrated from Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) say: "When a person prostates, he prostrates on seven parts of the body: His face, his hands, his knees and his feet."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرٌ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُضَرَ - عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « إِذَا سَجَدَ الْعَبْدُ سَجَدَ مَعَهُ سَبْعَةُ أَطْرَافٍ وَجْهُهُ وَكَفَّاهُ وَرُكْبَتَاهُ وَقَدَمَاهُ ».
