It was narrated that Aishah [May Allah be pleased with her] who said: “when the Messenger of Allah (SAW) wanted to enter Ihram, he would put on the best of perfume that I could find, then I would see the gleam of the oil on his hair and beard, after that.”

وَحَدَّثَنِى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ حَدَّثَنِى إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ - وَهُوَ السَّلُولِىُّ - حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ أَبِى إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِىُّ - عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى إِسْحَاقَ سَمِعَ ابْنَ الأَسْوَدِ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ - رضى الله عنها - قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُحْرِمَ يَتَطَيَّبُ بِأَطْيَبِ مَا يَجِدُ ثُمَّ أَرَى وَبِيصَ الدُّهْنِ فِى رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Al-Muntashir that his father said: “I asked Abdullah bin Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] about a man putting on perfume then entering Ihram in the morning. He said: ‘I would not like to enter Ihram reeking of perfume. If I were to rub pitch onto myself, that is dearer to me than doing that.’ Then I entered upon Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her] and told her that Ibn Umar said: ‘I would not like to enter Ihram reeking of perfume. If I were to rub pitch onto myself, that is dearer to me than doing that.’ Aishah said: ‘I put perfume on Messenger of Allah (SAW) for his Ihram, then he went around to his wives, then in the morning he entered Ihram.’”

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ أَبِى عَوَانَةَ - قَالَ سَعِيدٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ - عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَتَطَيَّبُ ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ مُحْرِمًا فَقَالَ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أُصْبِحَ مُحْرِمًا أَنْضَخُ طِيبًا لأَنْ أَطَّلِىَ بِقَطِرَانٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ. فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ - رضى الله عنها - فَأَخْبَرْتُهَا أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أُصْبِحَ مُحْرِمًا أَنْضَخُ طِيبًا لأَنْ أَطَّلِىَ بِقَطِرَانٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ. فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَنَا طَيَّبْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- عِنْدَ إِحْرَامِهِ ثُمَّ طَافَ فِى نِسَائِهِ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ مُحْرِمًا.

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Al-Muntashir said: “I heard my father narrating from Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her] that she said: ‘I put perfume on Messenger of Allah (SAW) for his Ihram, then he went around to his wives, then he would enter Ihram in the morning, smelling of perfume. ’ ”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ - حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِى يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ - رضى الله عنها - أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أُطَيِّبُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- ثُمَّ يَطُوفُ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ مُحْرِمًا يَنْضَخُ طِيبًا.

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Al-Muntashir that his father said: “I heard Ibn Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] say: ‘If I were to rub pitch onto myself, that is dearer to me than entering Ihram reeking of perfume.’ Then I entered upon Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her] and told her what he had said. She said: ‘I put perfume on Messenger of Allah (SAW) for his Ihram, then he went around to his wives, then in the morning he entered Ihram.’

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ وَسُفْيَانَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - يَقُولُ لأَنْ أُصْبِحَ مُطَّلِيًا بِقَطِرَانٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُصْبِحَ مُحْرِمًا أَنْضَخُ طِيبًا - قَالَ - فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ - رضى الله عنها - فَأَخْبَرْتُهَا بِقَوْلِهِ فَقَالَتْ طَيَّبْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَطَافَ فِى نِسَائِهِ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ مُحْرِمًا.

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them] that As-Sab bin Jaththamah Al-Laithi gave the Messenger of Allah (SAW) a gift of some onager meat when he was at Al-Abwa- or at Waddan- and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) refused it.When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saw the (expression) on his face, he said: ‘we would not have refused it, except that we have entered Ihram.’

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الصَّعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ اللَّيْثِىِّ أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا وَهُوَ بِالأَبْوَاءِ - أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ - فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَنْ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- مَا فِى وَجْهِى قَالَ « إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا حُرُمٌ ».

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them] said: “As-Sab bin Jaththamah gave the Prophet (SAW) a gift of some onager meat when he was in Ihram, and he refused it and said: ‘Were it not that we are in Ihram, we would have accepted it from you’”

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِى ثَابِتٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ أَهْدَى الصَّعْبُ بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ إِلَى النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ « لَوْلاَ أَنَّا مُحْرِمُونَ لَقَبِلْنَاهُ مِنْكَ ».

It was narrated from Saeed bin Jubair, from Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them] (a similar Hadith as no.2845)According to the report of Mansur from AL-Hakam: “As-Sab bin Jaththamah gave the Prophet (SAW) a gift of a leg of onager.”According to report of Shubah from Al-Hakam: “The rump of an onager that was dripping with blood.”According to the report of Shubah from Habib: “the prophet (SAW) given a piece of onager meat and he refused it.”

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَنْصُورًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - رضى الله عنهما - فِى رِوَايَةِ مَنْصُورٍ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ أَهْدَى الصَّعْبُ بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ إِلَى النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- رِجْلَ حِمَارِ وَحْشٍ. وَفِى رِوَايَةِ شُعْبَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَجُزَ حِمَارِ وَحْشٍ يَقْطُرُ دَمًا. وَفِى رِوَايَةِ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ أُهْدِىَ لِلنَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- شِقُّ حِمَارِ وَحْشٍ فَرَدَّهُ.

It was narrated from Tawus from Ibn Abbas [may Allah be pleased with them], he said: “Zaid bin Arqam came and Abdullah bin Abbas said to him reminding him: ‘what did you tell me about the game meat that was given to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) when he was in Ihram?’ he said: ‘he was given a leg of game meat but he refused it, and he (SAW) said: ‘we cannot eat it, we are in Ihram.’’”

وَحَدَّثَنِى زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِى الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ قَدِمَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَسْتَذْكِرُهُ كَيْفَ أَخْبَرْتَنِى عَنْ لَحْمِ صَيْدٍ أُهْدِىَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَهُوَ حَرَامٌ قَالَ قَالَ أُهْدِىَ لَهُ عُضْوٌ مِنْ لَحْمِ صَيْدٍ فَرَدَّهُ. فَقَالَ « إِنَّا لاَ نَأْكُلُهُ إِنَّا حُرُمٌ ».

Abu Qatadah said: “we went out with the Prophet (SAW) and when we were in Al-Qahah, some of us were in Ihram and some of us were not. Then I saw my companions looking at something, so I looked, and there was an onager. I saddled my horse and took up my spear, then I mounted and I dropped my whip. I said to my companions, who were in Ihram: ‘pass me the whip’. They said: ‘by Allah, we will not help you with it in any way.’ So I dismounted and picked I up, then I mounted again. I caught up with the onager from behind, when it was behind a hillock, and I stabbed it with my spear and killed it. I brought it to my companions and some of them said: ‘eat it, and others said: ‘do not eat it.’ The Prophet (SAW) was ahead of us, so I spurred my horse on and caught up with him, and he said: ‘it is lawful; eat it.’’”

وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِى عُمَرَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ مَوْلَى أَبِى قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْقَاحَةِ فَمِنَّا الْمُحْرِمُ وَمِنَّا غَيْرُ الْمُحْرِمِ إِذْ بَصُرْتُ بِأَصْحَابِى يَتَرَاءَوْنَ شَيْئًا فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا حِمَارُ وَحْشٍ. فَأَسْرَجْتُ فَرَسِى وَأَخَذْتُ رُمْحِى ثُمَّ رَكِبْتُ فَسَقَطَ مِنِّى سَوْطِى فَقُلْتُ لأَصْحَابِى وَكَانُوا مُحْرِمِينَ نَاوِلُونِى السَّوْطَ. فَقَالُوا وَاللَّهِ لاَ نُعِينُكَ عَلَيْهِ بِشَىْءٍ.فَنَزَلْتُ فَتَنَاوَلْتُهُ ثُمَّ رَكِبْتُ فَأَدْرَكْتُ الْحِمَارَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ وَهُوَ وَرَاءَ أَكَمَةٍ فَطَعَنْتُهُ بِرُمْحِى فَعَقَرْتُهُ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ أَصْحَابِى فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ كُلُوهُ. وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لاَ تَأْكُلُوهُ. وَكَانَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَمَامَنَا فَحَرَّكْتُ فَرَسِى فَأَدْرَكْتُهُ فَقَالَ « هُوَ حَلاَلٌ فَكُلُوهُ ».

It was narrated from Abu Qatadah that he was with the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and when they were partway along the road to Makkah, he lagged behind with some companions of his who were in Ihram, and he was not in Ihram. He saw an onager, so he mounted his horse and asked his companions to hand him his whip, but they refused to do so. He asked them for his spear, and they refused to give it to him. He picked it up and chased the onager and killed it, and some of the Companions of Prophet (SAW) ate from it and some of them refused. They caught up with the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and asked him about that, and he said: “it is food that Allah has provided for you.”

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِكٍ فِيمَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِ عَنْ أَبِى النَّضْرِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى أَبِى قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِى قَتَادَةَ - رضى الله عنه - أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ بِبَعْضِ طَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ تَخَلَّفَ مَعَ أَصْحَابٍ لَهُ مُحْرِمِينَ وَهُوَ غَيْرُ مُحْرِمٍ فَرَأَى حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا فَاسْتَوَى عَلَى فَرَسِهِ فَسَأَلَ أَصْحَابَهُ أَنْ يُنَاوِلُوهُ سَوْطَهُ فَأَبَوْا عَلَيْهِ فَسَأَلَهُمْ رُمْحَهُ فَأَبَوْا عَلَيْهِ فَأَخَذَهُ ثُمَّ شَدَّ عَلَى الْحِمَارِ فَقَتَلَهُ فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَأَبَى بَعْضُهُمْ فَأَدْرَكُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ « إِنَّمَا هِىَ طُعْمَةٌ أَطْعَمَكُمُوهَا اللَّهُ ».
