It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "When one of you goes to his bed, let him take the edge of his Izar (lower garment) and dust off his bed with it, and let him say the Name of Allah, for he does not know what came onto it after he left it. Then when he wants to lie down, let him lie down on his right side and say: 'Subhanaka rabbi, bika wada'tu janbi, wa bika arfa'uhu, in amskta nafsi faghfirli wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tahfazu bihi 'ibadakas-salihin (Glory is to You my Lord, by Your Grace I lay myself down and by Your Grace I get up again. If You keep my soul, then forgive it and if You send it back, then protect it with that with which You protect Your believing slaves)."'

وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِى سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِىُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَأْخُذْ دَاخِلَةَ إِزَارِهِ فَلْيَنْفُضْ بِهَا فِرَاشَهُ وَلْيُسَمِّ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَعْلَمُ مَا خَلَفَهُ بَعْدَهُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَضْطَجِعَ فَلْيَضْطَجِعْ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ وَلْيَقُلْ سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبِّى بِكَ وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِى وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِى فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ ».

It was narrated from 'Ubaid bin 'Umar with this chain of narrators (a Hadith similar to no. 6892), and he (s.a.w) said: "Then let him say: 'In Your Name my Lord I lay myself down, and if you bring my soul back to life then have mercy on it."'

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَقَالَ « ثُمَّ لْيَقُلْ بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّى وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِى فَإِنْ أَحْيَيْتَ نَفْسِى فَارْحَمْهَا ».

It was narrated from Anas that when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) went to his bed he would say: "Al-Hamdulillahilladhi at'amna wa saqana wa kafana wa awana, fakam mimman la kafiya lahu wa lamu'wiya (Praise is to Allah Who has fed us and given us to drink, and has sufficed us and provided us with shelter; how many are there for whom there is no one to suffice and no one to provide shelter)."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ « الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَكَفَانَا وَآوَانَا فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لاَ كَافِىَ لَهُ وَلاَ مُئْوِىَ ».

It was narrated that Farwah bin Nawfal Al-Ashja'i said: "I asked 'Aishah about how the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to call upon Allah in supplication, and she said: 'He used to say: Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of that which I have done, and from the evil of that which I have not done).'"

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى - قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ هِلاَلٍ عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ الأَشْجَعِىِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَمَّا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَدْعُو بِهِ اللَّهَ قَالَتْ كَانَ يَقُولُ « اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ ».

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Prophet (s.a.w) used to say in his supplication: "Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa sharri ma lam a'mal (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of that which I have done, and the evil of that which I have not done)."

وَحَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِىِّ عَنْ عَبْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِى لُبَابَةَ عَنْ هِلاَلِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ يَقُولُ فِى دُعَائِهِ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَشَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ».

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to say: ''Allahumma laka aslamtu wa bika amantu wa 'alaika tawakkaltu, wa ilaika anabtu, wa bika khasamtu. Allahumma inni a'udhu bi'izzatika- la ilaha illa anta - an tudillani, antal-hayyulladhi la yamutu, wal-jinnu wal-insu yamutu (O Allah, to You have I submitted, in You have I believed, upon You I have relied, to You have I turned in repentance, with Your help have I fought my adversaries. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your glory – none has the right to be worshiped but You - from Your sending me astray, for You are the Ever-Living Who does not die, but jinn and men die)."

حَدَّثَنِى حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ حَدَّثَنِى ابْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمُرَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ يَقُولُ « اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّتِكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَنْ تُضِلَّنِى أَنْتَ الْحَىُّ الَّذِى لاَ يَمُوتُ وَالْجِنُّ وَالإِنْسُ يَمُوتُونَ ».

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when the Prophet (s.a.w) was on a journey and the time just before dawn came he would say: "Samma' sami'un bi-hmdillahi wa husni bala'ihi 'alaina, rabbana sahibna wa afdil 'alaina, 'a'idhabillahi min an-nar (Let one who hears us convey our praise of Allah for His blessing upon us. Our Lord, accompany us and bestow Your Grace upon us. I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire)."

حَدَّثَنِى أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِى صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ إِذَا كَانَ فِى سَفَرٍ وَأَسْحَرَ يَقُولُ « سَمَّعَ سَامِعٌ بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ وَحُسْنِ بَلاَئِهِ عَلَيْنَا رَبَّنَا صَاحِبْنَا وَأَفْضِلْ عَلَيْنَا عَائِذًا بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ ».

It was narrated from Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa Al-Ash'ari from his father that the Prophet (s.a.w) used to say this ' supplication: "Allahummaghfirli khatiy'ati wa jahli, wa israfi fi amri, wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni, Allahummaghfirli jiddi wa hazli, wa khata'i wa 'amdi, wa kullu dhalika 'indi. Allahummaghfirli ma qaddamtu wa ma akh-khartu, wa ma asrartu, wa ma a'lantu, wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni antal-muqaddimu wa antal-mu'akh-khiru, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in qadir (O Allah, forgive me for my sins and ignorance, for my extravagance in my affairs and for what You know better than me. O Allah forgive me (for what I have done) seriously and in jest, inadvertently and deliberately; all of that is from me. O Allah, forgive me my past and future sins, what I have done hidden and what I have done openly, and what You know better than me. You are the One Who brings forward and puts back and You have power over all things)."

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِى إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِى بُرْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِى مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِىِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ « اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِى خَطِيئَتِى وَجَهْلِى وَإِسْرَافِى فِى أَمْرِى وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّى اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِى جِدِّى وَهَزْلِى وَخَطَئِى وَعَمْدِى وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدِى اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِى مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّى أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ».

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to say: 'Allahumma aslih li dinilladhi huwa 'ismatu amri, wa asli le dunyayallati fiha ma'ashi, wa aslih li akhiratillati fiha ma'adi, waj'alil-hayata ziyadatalli fi kulli khairin, waj'alil-mawta rahatalli min kulli sharr (O Allah, set right for me my religious commitment, which is the safeguard of my affairs. Set right for me my worldly affairs in which is my living. Set right for me my Hereafter in which will be my final abode. Make this life a means of increase in all that is good, and make death a relief for me from all evil)."

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قَطَنٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْقُطَعِىُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ الْمَاجِشُونِ عَنْ قُدَامَةَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِى صَالِحٍ السَّمَّانِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ لِى دِينِىَ الَّذِى هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِى وَأَصْلِحْ لِى دُنْيَاىَ الَّتِى فِيهَا مَعَاشِى وَأَصْلِحْ لِى آخِرَتِى الَّتِى فِيهَا مَعَادِى وَاجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ زِيَادَةً لِى فِى كُلِّ خَيْرٍ وَاجْعَلِ الْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِى مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ ».

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet (s.a.w) used to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa, wal-'afafa wal-ghina (O Allah I ask You for guidance, piety, abstinence and independence of means)."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِى إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِى الأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ « اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى ».
