اِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةِ اِنِّیْ خَالِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّنْ طِیْنٍ۝۷۱

When your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man from clay;

فَاِذَا سَوَّیْتُهٗ وَ نَفَخْتُ فِیْهِ مِنْ رُّوْحِیْ فَقَعُوْا لَهٗ سٰجِدِیْنَ۝۷۲

And when I have made him and have breathed into him of My spirit. Fall down in homage before him."

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ اَجْمَعُوْنَۙ۝۷۳

Then the angels bowed before him in a body,

اِلَّاۤ اِبْلِیْسَ ؕ اِسْتَكْبَرَ وَ كَانَ مِنَ الْكٰفِرِیْنَ۝۷۴

Except Iblis. He was filled with pride and turned an unbeliever.

قَالَ یٰۤاِبْلِیْسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِیَدَیَّ ؕ اَسْتَكْبَرْتَ اَمْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الْعَالِیْنَ۝۷۵

Said (God): "O Iblis, what hindered you from adoring what I created by My own authority? Are you too proud, or too high and mighty?"

قَالَ اَنَا خَیْرٌ مِّنْهُ ؕ خَلَقْتَنِیْ مِنْ نَّارٍ وَّ خَلَقْتَهٗ مِنْ طِیْنٍ۝۷۶

He said: "I am better than he. You created me from fire, and him from clay."

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَاِنَّكَ رَجِیْمٌۚۖ۝۷۷

(God) said: "Then go hence, ostracised.

وَّ اِنَّ عَلَیْكَ لَعْنَتِیْۤ اِلٰی یَوْمِ الدِّیْنِ۝۷۸

Upon you will be My damnation till the Day of Doom."

قَالَ رَبِّ فَاَنْظِرْنِیْۤ اِلٰی یَوْمِ یُبْعَثُوْنَ۝۷۹

He said: "O Lord, give me respite till the day the dead rise from their graves."

قَالَ فَاِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِیْنَۙ۝۸۰

(God) said: "You have the respite
