It was narrated from Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Prophet (SAW) was asked: “Which prayer is the best after the obligatory prayers, and which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?” He said: “The best prayer after the prescribed prayer is prayer in the middle of the night, and the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allah, Muharram.”

وَحَدَّثَنِى زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ - رضى الله عنه - يَرْفَعُهُ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَىُّ الصَّلاَةِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ وَأَىُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ « أَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ الصَّلاَةُ فِى جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ صِيَامُ شَهْرِ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمِ ».

It was narrated from Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted a lifetime.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ - قَالَ ابْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ - أَخْبَرَنِى سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْخَزْرَجِىِّ عَنْ أَبِى أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِىِّ - رضى الله عنه - أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَهُ سِتًّا مِنْ شَوَّالٍ كَانَ كَصِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ ».

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] that some men among the Companions of the Prophet (SAW) were shown Lailat Al-Qadar in their dreams, during the last seven (days of Ramadan). The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “I see that your dreams agree concerning the last seven (nights), so whoever wants to seek it, let him seek it in the last seven (nights).”

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - أَنَّ رِجَالاً مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أُرُوا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِى الْمَنَامِ فِى السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « أَرَى رُؤْيَاكُمْ قَدْ تَوَاطَأَتْ فِى السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ فَمَنْ كَانَ مُتَحَرِّيَهَا فَلْيَتَحَرَّهَا فِى السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ ».

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Prophet (SAW) said: “Seek Lailat Al-Qadar in the last seven (nights).”

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِى السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ ».

It was narrated from Salim that his father [may Allah be pleased with them] said: “A man saw (in a dream) that Lailat Al-Qadar was the night of twenty-seventh. The prophet (SAW) said: “I see that your dreams indicate the last ten (nights), so seek it in the odd numbered ones thereof.”’

وَحَدَّثَنِى عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ رَأَى رَجُلٌ أَنَّ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ. فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « أَرَى رُؤْيَاكُمْ فِى الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ فَاطْلُبُوهَا فِى الْوِتْرِ مِنْهَا ».

Salim bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar narrated that his father [may Allah be pleased with them] said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say, concerning Lailat Al-Qadar: ‘Some of you have been shown that it is in the first seven (nights), and some of you have been shown that it is in the last seven, so seek it during the last ten (nights).”’

وَحَدَّثَنِى حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِى سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ لِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ « إِنَّ نَاسًا مِنْكُمْ قَدْ أُرُوا أَنَّهَا فِى السَّبْعِ الأُوَلِ وَأُرِىَ نَاسٌ مِنْكُمْ أَنَّهَا فِى السَّبْعِ الْغَوَابِرِ فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِى الْعَشْرِ الْغَوَابِرِ ».

It was narrated that ‘Uqbah, who is Ibn Huraith, said: “I heard Ibn ‘Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] say: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Seek it in the last ten (nights),” meaning Lailat Al-Qadar, “and if one of you feels weak or tired, that should not cause you to miss the last seven (nights).”’

وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ حُرَيْثٍ - قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « الْتَمِسُوهَا فِى الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ - يَعْنِى لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ - فَإِنْ ضَعُفَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَوْ عَجَزَ فَلاَ يُغْلَبَنَّ عَلَى السَّبْعِ الْبَوَاقِى ».

Ibn ‘Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] narrated that the prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever wants to seek it, let him seek it in the last ten (nights).”

وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ جَبَلَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنَّهُ قَالَ « مَنْ كَانَ مُلْتَمِسَهَا فَلْيَلْتَمِسْهَا فِى الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ ».

It was narrated from ‘Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “I was shown Lailat Al Qadar, then one of my family woke me up and I was caused to forget it, so seek it in the last ten (nights).”(One of the narrators) Harmalah said: “and I forgot it.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ - رضى الله عنه - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « أُرِيتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ ثُمَّ أَيْقَظَنِى بَعْضُ أَهْلِى فَنُسِّيتُهَا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِى الْعَشْرِ الْغَوَابِرِ ». وَقَالَ حَرْمَلَةُ « فَنَسِيتُهَا ».

It was narrated that ‘Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri [may Allah be pleased with them] said: “The Messenger Of Allah (SAW) used to observe I’tikaf during the middle ten days of the month. Then when twenty nights had passed, and the twenty-first came, he would go back to his home, and those who had been observing I’tikaf with him also went back home. Then one month he observed I’tikaf on that night when he used to go home. Then he Addressed the people and exhorted them as Allah willed, then he said: I used to observe I’tikaf during these ten days, so whoever was observing I’tikaf with me, let him stay in his place of I’tikaf, for I was shown this night, then I was caused to forget it, so seek it in the last ten nights, on every odd-numbered night, for I saw myself prostrating in water and mud.”’Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: “It rained on the night of the twenty-first, and the Masjid leaked at the place where the Messenger of Allah (SAW) prayed. I looked at him when he had finished praying Subh and his face was wet with mud and water.”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرٌ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُضَرَ - عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِىِّ - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُجَاوِرُ فِى الْعَشْرِ الَّتِى فِى وَسَطِ الشَّهْرِ فَإِذَا كَانَ مِنْ حِينِ تَمْضِى عِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً وَيَسْتَقْبِلُ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ يَرْجِعُ إِلَى مَسْكَنِهِ وَرَجَعَ مَنْ كَانَ يُجَاوِرُ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ أَقَامَ فِى شَهْرٍ جَاوَرَ فِيهِ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ الَّتِى كَانَ يَرْجِعُ فِيهَا فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِمَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ « إِنِّى كُنْتُ أُجَاوِرُ هَذِهِ الْعَشْرَ ثُمَّ بَدَا لِى أَنْ أُجَاوِرَ هَذِهِ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ فَمَنْ كَانَ اعْتَكَفَ مَعِى فَلْيَبِتْ فِى مُعْتَكَفِهِ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ فَأُنْسِيتُهَا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِى الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ فِى كُلِّ وِتْرٍ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِى أَسْجُدُ فِى مَاءٍ وَطِينٍ ». قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِىُّ مُطِرْنَا لَيْلَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ فَوَكَفَ الْمَسْجِدُ فِى مُصَلَّى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَقَدِ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ وَوَجْهُهُ مُبْتَلٌّ طِينًا وَمَاءً.
