It was narrated that Aishah said: “Sawdah was a large and heavy woman, so she asked the Messenger of Allah (SAW) for permission to depart form Jam‘(Al-Muzdalifah) at night, and he gave her permission.”Aishah said: “Would that I had asked the Messenger of Allah (SAW) for permission as Sawdah did.” Aishah used to depart only with the Imam.

وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى جَمِيعًا عَنِ الثَّقَفِىِّ - قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ - حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَتْ سَوْدَةُ امْرَأَةً ضَخْمَةً ثَبِطَةً فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنْ تُفِيضَ مِنْ جَمْعٍ بِلَيْلٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَلَيْتَنِى كُنْتُ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَمَا اسْتَأْذَنَتْهُ سَوْدَةُ وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ لاَ تُفِيضُ إِلاَّ مَعَ الإِمَامِ.

It was narrated that Aishah said: “I wish that I had asked the Messenger of Allah (SAW) for permission as Sawdah did, then I would pray Subh in Mina and stone the Jamrah before the people come.”It was said to Aishah: “Did Sawdah asked him for permission?”She said:Yes She was a large and heavy woman, so she asked the Messenger of Allah (SAW) for permission, and he gave her permission.”

وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ وَدِدْتُ أَنِّى كُنْتُ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَمَا اسْتَأْذَنَتْهُ سَوْدَةُ فَأُصَلِّى الصُّبْحَ بِمِنًى فَأَرْمِى الْجَمْرَةَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتِىَ النَّاسُ. فَقِيلَ لِعَائِشَةَ فَكَانَتْ سَوْدَةُ اسْتَأْذَنَتْهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ إِنَّهَا كَانَتِ امْرَأَةً ثَقِيلَةً ثَبِطَةً فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَأَذِنَ لَهَا.

Abdullah, the freed slave of Asma, said: “Asma said to me, while she was in the area of Al-Muzdalifah: ‘Has the moon set?’ I said: ‘No.’ So she prayed for a while, then she said: ‘O my son, has the moon set?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ She said: ‘Set out with me.’ So we set out until she stoned the Jamrah, then she prayed where she stopped. I said to her: ‘O my lady, we set out when it was still dark.’ She said: ‘No, O my son. The Prophet (SAW) gave permission to the women.’ ”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِى بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى - وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ - عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى أَسْمَاءَ قَالَ قَالَتْ لِى أَسْمَاءُ وَهْىَ عِنْدَ دَارِ الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ هَلْ غَابَ الْقَمَرُ قُلْتُ لاَ. فَصَلَّتْ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ قَالَتْ يَا بُنَىَّ هَلْ غَابَ الْقَمَرُ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ. قَالَتِ ارْحَلْ بِى. فَارْتَحَلْنَا حَتَّى رَمَتِ الْجَمْرَةَ ثُمَّ صَلَّتْ فِى مَنْزِلِهَا فَقُلْتُ لَهَا أَىْ هَنْتَاهْ لَقَدْ غَلَّسْنَا. قَالَتْ كَلاَّ أَىْ بُنَىَّ إِنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَذِنَ لِلظُّعُنِ.

It was narrated from Ata that Ibn Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) sent me before dawn from Jam (Al-Muzdalifah) with the luggage of the Prophet of Allah (SAW).”I (one of the narrators) said: “Have you heard about that Ibn Abbas said: ‘He sent me in the latter part of the night.’” He said: “No, it was just what I said: ‘before dawn.’” I said to him: “Ibn Abbas said: ‘We stoned the Jamrah before dawn.’ But where did he pray Fajr?” He said: “No, that’s all he told me.”

وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِى عَطَاءٌ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ بَعَثَ بِى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بِسَحَرٍ مِنْ جَمْعٍ فِى ثَقَلِ نَبِىِّ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم-.قُلْتُ أَبَلَغَكَ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ بَعَثَ بِى بِلَيْلٍ طَوِيلٍ قَالَ لاَ إِلاَّ كَذَلِكَ بِسَحَرٍ. قُلْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَمَيْنَا الْجَمْرَةَ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ. وَأَيْنَ صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ قَالَ لاَ إِلاَّ كَذَلِكَ.

Salim bin Abdullah narrated that Abdullah bin Umar used to send the weak ones among his family on ahead, and they would stay at Al-Mashar Al-Haram in Al-Muzdalifah at night, remembering Allah as much as they wanted. Then they would move on before the Imam stood and before he moved on. Some of them arrived in Mina for Fajr prayer, and some arrived after that. When they arrived, they stoned the Jamrah. Ibn Umar used to say: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) granted a concession for them.”

وَحَدَّثَنِى أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يُقَدِّمُ ضَعَفَةَ أَهْلِهِ فَيَقِفُونَ عِنْدَ الْمَشْعَرِ الْحَرَامِ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَيَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ مَا بَدَا لَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَدْفَعُونَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقِفَ الإِمَامُ وَقَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْفَعَ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقْدَمُ مِنًى لِصَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقْدَمُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَإِذَا قَدِمُوا رَمَوُا الْجَمْرَةَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ أَرْخَصَ فِى أُولَئِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم-.

It was narrated that Abdur-Rahman bin Yazid said: “Abdullah bin Masud stoned at Jamrat Al-Aqabah from the bottom of the valley with seven pebbles, saying the Takbir with each throw.”It was said to him: “Some people are stoning it from above.” Abdullah bin Masud said: “By the One besides Whom there is none worthy of worship, this is where the one of whom Surat Al-Baqarah was revealed stood.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ رَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِى بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ. قَالَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَرْمُونَهَا مِنْ فَوْقِهَا. فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ هَذَا وَالَّذِى لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِى أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ.

It was narrated that Al-Amash said: “I heard Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf say – while he was delivering the Khutbah on the Minbar: ‘Observe the order of the Quran as it was observed by Jibril: The Surah in which the cow is mentioned, the Surah in which women are mentioned, and the Surah in which the family of Imran is mentioned.’”“So I met Ibrahim and told him what he had said, so he criticized him, and he said: “Abdur-Rahman bin Yazid narrated to me that he was with Abdullah bin Masud and he came to Jamrat Al-Aqabah. He went to the bottom of the valley and turned to face it, and he stoned it from the bottom of the valley with seven pebbles, saying the Takbir with each throw.” I said: “O Abu Abdur-Rahman, the people are stoning it from above.” He said: “This, By the One besides Whom there is none worthy of worship, is the place where one to whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed stood.””

وَحَدَّثَنَا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ التَّمِيمِىُّ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَجَّاجَ بْنَ يُوسُفَ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ أَلِّفُوا الْقُرْآنَ كَمَا أَلَّفَهُ جِبْرِيلُ السُّورَةُ الَّتِى يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا الْبَقَرَةُ وَالسُّورَةُ الَّتِى يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا النِّسَاءُ وَالسُّورَةُ الَّتِى يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا آلُ عِمْرَانَ. قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِقَوْلِهِ فَسَبَّهُ وَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَأَتَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ فَاسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِىَ فَاسْتَعْرَضَهَا فَرَمَاهَا مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِى بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ - قَالَ - فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَرْمُونَهَا مِنْ فَوْقِهَا. فَقَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِى لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِى أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ.

Abu Az-Zubair narrated that he heard Jabir say: “I saw the Prophet (SAW) stoning (Jamrah) while riding on the Day of Sacrifice, and saying ‘Learn your rituals (of Hajj) from me, for I do not know, perhaps I will not perform Hajj again after this Hajj of mine.’”

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ يُونُسَ - قَالَ ابْنُ خَشْرَمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى - عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِى أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَرْمِى عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ وَيَقُولُ « لِتَأْخُذُوا مَنَاسِكَكُمْ فَإِنِّى لاَ أَدْرِى لَعَلِّى لاَ أَحُجُّ بَعْدَ حَجَّتِى هَذِهِ ».

Yahya bin Husain narrated from his grandmother Umm Al-Husain, saying: “I performed the farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and I saw him when he stoned Jamrat Al-Aqabah on his mount and departed, accompanied by Bilal and Usamah. One of them leading his mount, and the other holding up his garment over the head of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) (to shield him) from the sun. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said many things, then I heard him say: ‘Even a slave who is missing some limbs is appointed over you’ and I think he said: ‘who is black’ – ‘but he leads you according to the Book of Allah, then listen to him and obey.’”

وَحَدَّثَنِى سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِى أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ أُمِّ الْحُصَيْنِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ حِينَ رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ وَانْصَرَفَ وَهُوَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَمَعَهُ بِلاَلٌ وَأُسَامَةُ أَحَدُهُمَا يَقُودُ بِهِ رَاحِلَتَهُ وَالآخَرُ رَافِعٌ ثَوْبَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- مِنَ الشَّمْسِ - قَالَتْ - فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَوْلاً كَثِيرًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ « إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ - حَسِبْتُهَا قَالَتْ - أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا ».

It was narrated from Yahya bin Husain that his grandmother Umm Al-Husain said: “I performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and I saw Usamah and Bilal, one of them holding the reins of the Prophet’s camel, and the other holding up his garment to shield him from the heat, until he stoned Jamrat Al-Aqabah.”

وَحَدَّثَنِى أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِى عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِى أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ عَنْ أُمِّ الْحُصَيْنِ جَدَّتِهِ قَالَتْ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُ أُسَامَةَ وَبِلاَلاً وَأَحَدُهُمَا آخِذٌ بِخِطَامِ نَاقَةِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَالآخَرُ رَافِعٌ ثَوْبَهُ يَسْتُرُهُ مِنَ الْحَرِّ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ. قَالَ مُسْلِمٌ وَاسْمُ أَبِى عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ خَالِدُ بْنُ أَبِى يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ خَالُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ رَوَى عَنْهُ وَكِيعٌ وَحَجَّاجٌ الأَعْوَرُ.
