It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to pray eleven Rak'ah at night, and he would make them an odd number with one Rak'ah. When he had finished, he would lie down on his right side, until the Mu'adhdhin came to him, then he would pray two brief Rak'ah.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ يُصَلِّى بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُصَلِّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ.

It was narrated that 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet (s.a.w), said: "Between finishing the 'Isha' prayer - which the people call Al-'Atamah - and dawn, the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) would pray eleven Rak'ah, saying the Taslim between every two Rak'ah, and making them an odd number with one Rak'ah. When the Mu'adhdhin fell silent following the call to Fajr prayer, and he could see the dawn, and the Mu'adhdhin came to him, he would pray two brief Rak'ah, then lie down on his right side, until the Mu'adhdhin came to him for the Iqamah."

وَحَدَّثَنِى حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُصَلِّى فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعِشَاءِ - وَهِىَ الَّتِى يَدْعُو النَّاسُ الْعَتَمَةَ - إِلَى الْفَجْرِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُسَلِّمُ بَيْنَ كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ وَجَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ لِلإِقَامَةِ.

It was narrated from Abu Salamah bin 'Abdur-Rahman that he asked 'Aishah: "How did the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) pray during Ramadan?" She said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) did not pray more, in Ramadan or at any other time, than eleven Rak'ah. He would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful and long they were. Then he would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful and long they were. Then he would pray three." 'Aishah said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you sleep before you pray Witr?' He said: 'O 'Aishah, my eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep."'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِىِّ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ كَيْفَ كَانَتْ صَلاَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فِى رَمَضَانَ قَالَتْ مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَزِيدُ فِى رَمَضَانَ وَلاَ فِى غَيْرِهِ عَلَى إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُصَلِّى أَرْبَعًا فَلاَ تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّى أَرْبَعًا فَلاَ تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّى ثَلاَثًا فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَنَامُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُوتِرَ فَقَالَ « يَا عَائِشَةُ إِنَّ عَيْنَىَّ تَنَامَانِ وَلاَ يَنَامُ قَلْبِى ».

It was narrated that Abu Salamah said: "I asked 'Aishah about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and she said: 'He used to pray thirteen Rak'ah. He would pray eight Rak'ah, then he would pray Witr, then he would pray two Rak'ah while sitting. When he wanted to bow he would stand up then bow. Then he prayed two Rak'ah between the call (to prayer) and Iqamah for Fajr prayer."'

وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِى عَدِىٍّ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَتْ كَانَ يُصَلِّى ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُصَلِّى ثَمَانَ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ يُوتِرُ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ قَامَ فَرَكَعَ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَيْنَ النِّدَاءِ وَالإِقَامَةِ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ.

Abu Salamah said: "I came to 'Aishah and said: 'O my mother, tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w).' She said: 'He used to pray - during Ramadan and at other times - thirteen Rak'ah at night, including the two Rak'ah of Fajr.'"

وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِى لَبِيدٍ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ فَقُلْتُ أَىْ أُمَّهْ أَخْبِرِينِى عَنْ صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم-. فَقَالَتْ كَانَتْ صَلاَتُهُ فِى شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ وَغَيْرِهِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بِاللَّيْلِ مِنْهَا رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ.

It was narrated that Abu Ishaq said: "I asked Al-Aswad bin Yazid what 'Aishah had told him about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w). She said: 'He used to sleep for the first part of the night and stay up for the latter part. Then if he had any need (for intimacy) from his wife he would satisfy that need, then he would go to sleep. Then when the first call came,' she said, 'he leapt up' - and by Allah she did not say 'he got up' - 'and poured water over himself - and by Allah, she did not say, 'he performed Ghusl,' and I know what she meant. 'If he was not Junub, he would perform Wudu' as a man does for prayer, then he prayed the two Rak'ah."'

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِى إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ الأَسْوَدَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ عَمَّا حَدَّثَتْهُ عَائِشَةُ عَنْ صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَتْ كَانَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُحْيِى آخِرَهُ ثُمَّ إِنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ فَإِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ النِّدَاءِ الأَوَّلِ - قَالَتْ - وَثَبَ - وَلاَ وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتْ قَامَ - فَأَفَاضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ - وَلاَ وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتِ اغْتَسَلَ. وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ مَا تُرِيدُ - وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ جُنُبًا تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَ الرَّجُلِ لِلصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ.

It was narrated that Masruq said: "I asked 'Aishah about the actions of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w). She said: 'He loved that which was done consistently.' I said: 'When did he pray?' She said: 'When the rooster crowed, he would get up and pray.'"

حَدَّثَنِى هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِىِّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ عَمَلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَتْ كَانَ يُحِبُّ الدَّائِمَ. قَالَ قُلْتُ أَىَّ حِينٍ كَانَ يُصَلِّى فَقَالَتْ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ الصَّارِخَ قَامَ فَصَلَّى.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "When the Prophet (s.a.w) had prayed the two Rak'ah of Fajr, if I was awake he would talk to me, otherwise he would lie down."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَنَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِىٍّ وَابْنُ أَبِى عُمَرَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَبِى النَّضْرِ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِىُّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ فَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُسْتَيْقِظَةً حَدَّثَنِى وَإِلاَّ اضْطَجَعَ.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to pray at night, and when he had prayed Witr he said: 'Get up and pray Witr, O 'Aishah!"'

وَحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُصَلِّى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَإِذَا أَوْتَرَ قَالَ « قُومِى فَأَوْتِرِى يَا عَائِشَةُ ».

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) used to pray at night while she was lying in front of him, and when only Witr was left, he would wake her up and she would pray Witr.

وَحَدَّثَنِى هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَيْلِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ يُصَلِّى صَلاَتَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَهِىَ مُعْتَرِضَةٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَإِذَا بَقِىَ الْوِتْرُ أَيْقَظَهَا فَأَوْتَرَتْ.
