It was narrated from Sahl bin Hunaif that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘There will be people in the east who will go astray; they have shaven heads.’

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَإِسْحَاقُ جَمِيعًا عَنْ يَزِيدَ - قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ - عَنِ الْعَوَّامِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِىُّ عَنْ أُسَيْرِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « يَتِيهُ قَوْمٌ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ مُحَلَّقَةٌ رُءُوسُهُمْ ».

Abu Hurairah said: “Al-Hasan bin Ali took a date from the dates that had been given in charity and put it in his mouth. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘No, no, put it down! Don’t you know that we do not consume charity?’”

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ - سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ أَخَذَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِىٍّ تَمْرَةً مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَهَا فِى فِيهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « كِخْ كِخْ ارْمِ بِهَا أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا لاَ نَأْكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ ».

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “I go to my family and I find a date lying on my bed, and I pick it up to eat it, then I fear that it may be charity, so I put it down.”

حَدَّثَنِى هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَيْلِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى عَمْرٌو أَنَّ أَبَا يُونُسَ مَوْلَى أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَنَّهُ قَالَ « إِنِّى لأَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِى فَأَجِدُ التَّمْرَةَ سَاقِطَةً عَلَى فِرَاشِى ثُمَّ أَرْفَعُهَا لآكُلَهَا ثُمَّ أَخْشَى أَنْ تَكُونَ صَدَقَةً فَأُلْقِيهَا ».

Abdul Muttalib bin Rabiah bin Al-Harith narrated: “Rabiah bin Al-Harith and Al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib got together and said: ‘By Allah, why don’t we send these two young men- meaning myself and Al-Fadl bin Abbas- to Messenger of Allah (SAW) to speak to him, so that he will appoint them in charge of this charity, then they would do what the people do and get what the people get.’ While they were discussing that, Ali bin Abi Talib came and stood in front of them, they mention that to him, and Ali bin Abi Talib said: ‘Do not do that, for by Allah, he will not do that.’ Rabiah bin Al-Harith turned to him and said: ‘By Allah, you are only saying this because you feel jealous of us. By Allah, when you became son-in law of Messenger of Allah (SAW) we did not feel jealous of you.’ Ali said: ‘Send them.’ So they went, and Ali lay down.” He said: “When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had prayed Zuhr, we went ahead of him to the apartment and stood at the door until he came. He took hold of our ears and said: ‘Tell me what you want to say’. Then he went in and we entered upon him, and on that day he was at the house of Zainab bint Jahsh. Each of us urged the other to speak, then one of us spoke and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah (SAW), you are the kindest of people and best in upholding ties of kinship. We have the reached the age of marriage, and we have come so that you might appoint us in charge of some of this charity, so that we may do for what the people do, and get what they get.’ He remained silent for a long time, until we wanted to speak again, but Zainab gestured to us from behind the curtain not to speak. Then he said: ‘The charity is not appropriate for the Family of Muhammad, rather it is the dirt of the people. Call Mahmiyah for me’- who was in charge of the Khums – ‘and Nawfal bin Al-Harith bin Abdul- Muttalib.’ ”They came, and he said to Mahmiyah: ‘Give your daughter in marriage to this young man,’ meaning Al-Fadl bin Abbas – and he did so. And he said to Nawfal bin Al-Harith: ‘Give your daughter in marriage to this young man’, meaning myself- and he did so. And he said to Mahmiyah: ‘Give the gift (the Mahr) fro them from the Khums, such-and-such an amount.’Az-Zuhri (one of the narrators) said: “And he did not tell me how much it was.”

حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسْمَاءَ الضُّبَعِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ اجْتَمَعَ رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ وَالْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالاَ وَاللَّهِ لَوْ بَعَثْنَا هَذَيْنِ الْغُلاَمَيْنِ - قَالاَ لِى وَلِلْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَكَلَّمَاهُ فَأَمَّرَهُمَا عَلَى هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَاتِ فَأَدَّيَا مَا يُؤَدِّى النَّاسُ وَأَصَابَا مِمَّا يُصِيبُ النَّاسُ - قَالَ - فَبَيْنَمَا هُمَا فِى ذَلِكَ جَاءَ عَلِىُّ بْنُ أَبِى طَالِبٍ فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهِمَا فَذَكَرَا لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عَلِىُّ بْنُ أَبِى طَالِبٍ لاَ تَفْعَلاَ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ بِفَاعِلٍ. فَانْتَحَاهُ رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا تَصْنَعُ هَذَا إِلاَّ نَفَاسَةً مِنْكَ عَلَيْنَا فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ نِلْتَ صِهْرَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَمَا نَفِسْنَاهُ عَلَيْكَ. قَالَ عَلِىٌّ أَرْسِلُوهُمَا. فَانْطَلَقَا وَاضْطَجَعَ عَلِىٌّ - قَالَ - فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- الظُّهْرَ سَبَقْنَاهُ إِلَى الْحُجْرَةِ فَقُمْنَا عِنْدَهَا حَتَّى جَاءَ فَأَخَذَ بِآذَانِنَا. ثُمَّ قَالَ « أَخْرِجَا مَا تُصَرِّرَانِ » ثُمَّ دَخَلَ وَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ - قَالَ - فَتَوَاكَلْنَا الْكَلاَمَ ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ أَحَدُنَا فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ أَبَرُّ النَّاسِ وَأَوْصَلُ النَّاسِ وَقَدْ بَلَغْنَا النِّكَاحَ فَجِئْنَا لِتُؤَمِّرَنَا عَلَى بَعْضِ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَاتِ فَنُؤَدِّىَ إِلَيْكَ كَمَا يُؤَدِّى النَّاسُ وَنُصِيبَ كَمَا يُصِيبُونَ - قَالَ - فَسَكَتَ طَوِيلاً حَتَّى أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُكَلِّمَهُ - قَالَ - وَجَعَلَتْ زَيْنَبُ تُلْمِعُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْحِجَابِ أَنْ لاَ تُكَلِّمَاهُ - قَالَ - ثُمَّ قَالَ « إِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لاَ تَنْبَغِى لآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ. إِنَّمَا هِىَ أَوْسَاخُ النَّاسِ ادْعُوَا لِى مَحْمِيَةَ - وَكَانَ عَلَى الْخُمُسِ - وَنَوْفَلَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ». قَالَ فَجَاءَاهُ فَقَالَ لِمَحْمِيَةَ « أَنْكِحْ هَذَا الْغُلاَمَ ابْنَتَكَ ». لِلْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَأَنْكَحَهُ وَقَالَ لِنَوْفَلِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ « أَنْكِحْ هَذَا الْغُلاَمَ ابْنَتَكَ ». لِى فَأَنْكَحَنِى وَقَالَ لِمَحْمِيَةَ « أَصْدِقْ عَنْهُمَا مِنَ الْخُمُسِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ». قَالَ الزُّهْرِىُّ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّهِ لِى.

Abdul Muttalib bin Rabiah bin Al-Harith bin Abdul Muttalib narrated that his father Rabiah bin Al-Harith [bin Abdul Muttalib] and Al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib said to Abdul Muttalib bin Rabiah and Al-Fadl bin Abbas: “Go to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) …..” and he quoted a Hadith like that of Malik (no.2 481). And he said in it: “Ali spread this Rida and lay down on it, and he said: ‘I am Abu Hasan, the chief, and By Allah I will not ,move from my place until your two sons come back to you with the reply to the request with which you sent them to the Messenger of Allah (SAW).’”And he said in the hadith: “The he said to us: ‘This charity is the dirt of people, and it is not permissible for Muhammad (SAW) nor for the family of Muhammad (SAW).’” And he said: “Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘Call Mahmiyah bin Jaz for me.’ He was a man from Banu Asad whom the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had appointed in charge of Khums.”

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ الْهَاشِمِىِّ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَالْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالاَ لِعَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ وَلِلْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ائْتِيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ وَقَالَ فِيهِ فَأَلْقَى عَلِىٌّ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ أَنَا أَبُو حَسَنٍ الْقَرْمُ وَاللَّهِ لاَ أَرِيمُ مَكَانِى حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْكُمَا ابْنَاكُمَا بِحَوْرِ مَا بَعَثْتُمَا بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم-. وَقَالَ فِى الْحَدِيثِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَنَا « إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَاتِ إِنَّمَا هِىَ أَوْسَاخُ النَّاسِ وَإِنَّهَا لاَ تَحِلُّ لِمُحَمَّدٍ وَلاَ لآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ». وَقَالَ أَيْضًا ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « ادْعُوَا لِى مَحْمِيَةَ بْنَ جَزْءٍ ». وَهُوَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِى أَسَدٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- اسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى الأَخْمَاسِ.

Ubaid bin As-Sabbaq said: “Juwairiyah the wife of Prophet (SAW), told him that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) entered upon her and said: ‘Is there any food?’ she said: ‘No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah (SAW), we do not have any food except a bone of mutton that was given to our freed slave woman from the charity.’ He said: ‘Bring it, for it has reached its destination.’”

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ السَّبَّاقِ قَالَ إِنَّ جُوَيْرِيَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ « هَلْ مِنْ طَعَامٍ ». قَالَتْ لاَ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا عِنْدَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلاَّ عَظْمٌ مِنْ شَاةٍ أُعْطِيَتْهُ مَوْلاَتِى مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ. فَقَالَ « قَرِّبِيهِ فَقَدْ بَلَغَتْ مَحِلَّهَا ».

Anas bin Malik said: “Barirah gave the Prophet (SAW) some meat that had been given to her in charity, and he said: ‘It is charity for her and a gift for us.’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ أَهْدَتْ بَرِيرَةُ إِلَى النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لَحْمًا تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ « هُوَ لَهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ ».

It was narrated that Umm Atiyyah said: “The Messenger of Allah (SAW) sent a sheep from the charity to me, and I sent some of it to Aishah. When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) came to Aishah he said: ‘Do you have any thing (to eat)?’ She said: ‘No, except that Nusaibah sent us some of the sheep which you had sent to her.’ He said: ‘It has reached its destination.’”

حَدَّثَنِى زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ بَعَثَ إِلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بِشَاةٍ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَبَعَثْتُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ مِنْهَا بِشَىْءٍ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إِلَى عَائِشَةَ قَالَ « هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ شَىْءٌ ». قَالَتْ لاَ. إِلاَّ أَنَّ نُسَيْبَةَ بَعَثَتْ إِلَيْنَا مِنَ الشَّاةِ الَّتِى بَعَثْتُمْ بِهَا إِلَيْهَا قَالَ « إِنَّهَا قَدْ بَلَغَتْ مَحِلَّهَا ».

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when food was brought to the Prophet (SAW), he would ask about it. If it was said that it was a gift, he would eat from it, but if it was said that it was charity, he would not eat from it.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلاَّمٍ الْجُمَحِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ - عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ - عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ. أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- كَانَ إِذَا أُتِىَ بِطَعَامٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهُ فَإِنْ قِيلَ هَدِيَّةٌ أَكَلَ مِنْهَا وَإِنْ قِيلَ صَدَقَةٌ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهَا.

Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said: “When people brought their charity to him, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) would say: ‘Allahumma salli alaihim (O Allah, bless them).’ My father Abu Awfa brought some charity to him and he said: ‘Allahumma salli ala ali awfa (O Allah, bless the family of Abu Awfa).’”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِى أَوْفَى ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو - وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُرَّةَ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِى أَوْفَى قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إِذَا أَتَاهُ قَوْمٌ بِصَدَقَتِهِمْ قَالَ « اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ». فَأَتَاهُ أَبِى أَبُو أَوْفَى بِصَدَقَتِهِ فَقَالَ « اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى آلِ أَبِى أَوْفَى ».
